Contact: Dan Ruccia
Sponsor: Duke University Department of Music
Where: Bone Hall, Biddle Music Building, Duke East Campus
Why:
The Duke New Music Ensemble [dnme] continues its 2009-10 season in a concert entitled "The Eternal Interlock." The concert is centered around Louis Andriessen's monumental "Hoketus" for two groups of six instruments, which explores many of the possibilities of the medieval technique, "hocket." They will also be premiering [dnme] member David Kirkland Garner's "Eilean," a suite for violin and piano inspired by Cape Breton fiddle music. Rounding out the concert is Morton Feldman's "Viola in My Life I," Katherine Hoover's "Antics" for 2 flutes, and Andrew Seager Cole's "Five" for quartet. And since [dnme] is dedicated to performing in unusual venues, this concert will be held in Bone Hall in the Biddle Music building.
[dnme] is a part of the Department of Music, and brings together undergraduate and graduate student performers in presenting music written in the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition, [dnme] also collaborates regularly with faculty and guest artists from the Duke University Department of Music and other institutions across North Carolina.
